Budi HT as Head of Operations Section of PTPN VIII in Sukabumi, West Java stated that the commodity that provides the largest income from other types of plantation commodities is palm oil.

"Palm in PTPN VIII is the backbone, so far there are 21 thousand hectares," said Budi.

Currently, the production of palm oil to be used as Crude Palm Oil (CPO) has an income that has an impact of 50 percent on the income of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VIII from various other plantation commodities.

M. Irwan as General Manager in Region One of PTPN VIII stated that the income obtained from PTPN VIII's palm oil can produce around 800 to 900 tons of FFB per day. Then for the extraction of CPO from FFB can produce about 22 percent.

The PTPN VIII area in Banten and West Java has seven oil palm plantation areas. In first region, which is in the provinces of Banten and Sukabumi, West Java, it consists of Bodongdatar, Kertajaya Gardens, Cisalak Baru, Sukamaju, Cikasungka. Then for the second region in West Java, which consist of Panglejar and Tambaksari Gardens.

Two palm oil mills in PTPN VIII function to process palm oil from Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to become CPO. The factories are located in Cikasungka and Kertajaya.

Irwan also stated that the productivity of palm oil plantations in Java has a difference to the yield of palm oil in Sumatra based on quantity due to climatic and natural conditions such as soil contours and rainfall. He also said that oil palm plantations in Java can produce around 60-70 percent of the optimum total productivity. ‘

In order to produce palm fruit with maximum quality, it takes about 6 milliliters of rain per day for palm oil trees. The area around the island of Java, has a geographical location that is not close to the equator, causing a dry season and causing less rainfall intensity for the growth of palm oil trees. Meanwhile, the areas around the equator include West Sumatra, Riau, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Maluku and Papua.

“We can't get even rainfall throughout the year in Java. Because we are under the south latitude, not the equator,” said Irwan.
